As part of character creation, Rime of the Frostmaiden suggests that the DM give each player a secret about their character that they can either keep hidden or share with the party whenever they like, the idea being to stoke a sense of paranoia in the players in keeping with the survival-horror genre. I put my own spin on this by giving some of the players secrets about each others’ characters, because while it’s nerve-wracking when you can’t trust your teammates, it’s terrifying when you can’t trust yourself!
